Yesterday Chris said “I really want something good to eat.” Which is code for, you’re going to have to cook something different than you usually cook..lol! Don’t get me wrong, I know he loves my cooking but every now and then we all want something different. So I was searching around on Pinterest and I showed him a Mongolian Beef recipe and he says “I want that!” I saw that it had been pinned a million times so I figured that was a good sign. So I commenced to whipping this recipe up and it wasn’t hard at all. I think it’s a great beef recipe to bring out when you want to impress your hubby or you’re trying to catch a man…lol! Just playing…. well not really.

Mongolian Beef Recipe

Add some beef to your diet in a delicious way with this Mongolian Beef recipe that is sure to impress. If you love sweet and savory, this is the dish for you!
Ingredients
  • 1 lb flank steak
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup green onions
  • 2 tsp salt
  • Sauce
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 cloves of minced garlic
  • 1 tsp fresh grated ginger
Instructions
  1. In a medium sauce pan add 2 tsp of vegetable oil over medium heat. When the oil comes to temperature, add your garlic and ginger and sauté for about 2 minutes to release the flavor.
  2. Immediately add your soy sauce, dark brown sugar and water. Bring to a boil for about 3 -4 minutes to let the sauce thicken up a little.
  3. Remove from heat and set aside.
  4. Take out a cutting board and slice your flank steak against the grain into 1 to 2 inch bites.
  5. Afterwards put in a medium bowl and add salt and cornstarch.
  6. Toss thoroughly to coat and let the beef sit for 15 minutes.
  7. Heat a medium saucepan up with the remaining oil and when it’s hot, add your beef and fry for about 3 minutes.
  8. You’re not trying to cook it all the way, just get a little crust on it.
  9. Remove beef with slotted spoon onto a paper towel lined plate.
  10. Remove all oil from pan and return steak to the pan and let cook for 1 minute.
  11. Now pour your soy sauce mixture over your beef and cook on medium for another 3 minutes.
  12. Garnish with green onion. Serve with rice or mashed potatoes.

Do you eat a lot of beef?  It’s usually chicken or fish over here but this is definitely a recipe that I will make again!
