We eat chicken and rice a lot in my house. After you’ve lived in another country for a few years, it’s inevitable that you take some of their culture with you. We took rice and chicken from Japan. Another thing that I’m glad that I took with me  is my rice cooker. I bought it while I was over there.  It still works years later  and makes perfect sushi rice every time! I cook chicken really well and I wanted to share this recipe with you. This Sesame Chicken Recipe is really tasty and easy! We made a night out of it and ate with chopsticks and I also made salad with Japanese salad dressing. Yum! My daughter Chloe who was born in Japan tried to eat with chopsticks as well, that was really funny to watch! At any rate, try this recipe. You will not regret it!

Easy Sesame Chicken Recipe

Ingredients
  • Chicken
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 Tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 pinch each salt & pepper
  • 1 lb. boneless, skinless chicken thighs or tenders
  • 3 Tbsp vegetable oil (for frying)
  • Sauce
  • 2 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 4 Tbsp water
  • ½ Tbsp toasted sesame oil
  • 1½ Tbsp brown sugar
  • 1½ Tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 inch fresh ginger (I used ginger powder)
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 2 Tbsp sesame seeds
  • 1 Tbsp cornstarch
  • Sauce
Instructions
  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the egg, 2 Tbsp cornstarch, and a pinch of salt and pepper.
  2. Trim any excess fat from the chicken thighs (no fat cutting with tenders), then cut them into small 1 inch pieces.
  3. Toss the chicken in the egg and cornstarch mixture.
  4. Heat a large skillet with 2 Tbsp of vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
  5. When the oil is very hot add the chicken and all of the egg mixture.
  6. Cook the chicken, stirring only occasionally, until it is golden brown and cooked through (about 7-13 minutes).
  7. Drain off the excess oil, if desired.
  8. While the chicken is cooking, prepare the sauce. In a small bowl stir together the soy sauce, water, sesame oil, brown sugar, rice vinegar, fresh ginger, minced garlic, cornstarch, and sesame seeds.
  9. Once the chicken is cooked through and golden brown, pour the sauce over top. Toss the chicken to coat in the sauce.
  10. The sauce will begin to thicken as soon as it hits the hot skillet. Once the chicken is coated and the sauce thickened, turn off the heat.
  11. Serve the chicken over a bed of rice and sprinkle the sliced green onions over top.
