4 Tried & True Beauty Products That I Love

Posted in Beauty, Inspiration
on March 13, 2017
I’ve logged in some hours watching youtube makeup tutorials and I’m still not nearly as good as the ladies I watch. It’s amazing to see someone transform right in front of your eyes. I haven’t perfected contouring or highlighting but I like to believe I do a decent job. When it comes to eyeshadows, I usually stay in browns and golds because it looks good with my eye color. I’m always on the lookout for products that actually perform. Today I’m sharing the 4 beauty products/tips that really work. Without further ado, let’s get into it!
Mary Kay Ultimate Mascara
I know Mary Kay has been around a long time and it’s for good reason. I’ve tried many of the pricier mascaras from Marc Jacobs to Clinique and I always end up coming back to Mary Kay’s Ultimate Mascara. I don’t have long or dark eyelashes and this lengthens the little bit I do have and makes them noticeable. I’ve been buying this mascara for over 8 years and it’s a solid product that is well priced and lengthens lashes.
Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette
Chris recently bought me this palette for Valentine’s Day (per my request) and I love it. There are so many neutral and beautiful colors in this palette. The pigment is very rich and I can tell a stark difference between any of my other eyeshadows and this one. The quality is hands and feet above the rest. These gorgeous colors are worth the coins.
Eyebrow Pencil
For those of us not born with lush eyebrows, a good brow pencil is worth it’s weight in gold. Although I don’t believe it really matters which kind you buy as long as it matches your normal eyebrow hair and you’re not too heavy handed.
Olive Oil/Avacado Oil for Oil Cleansing
I don’t wash my face with a foaming cleanser unless I’m having some type of breakout. (which isn’t often) I wash my face with oil and it has done wonders for my skin. Many days I don’t wear foundation at all and just let my freckles shine on through. If you take care of your skin and get some sleep at night, you’re on the road to great skin.
I took a selfie yesterday using the products I mentioned here!
So what are your favorite beauty products that you’ve continued to buy over the years? I’d love to hear your tried and true favorites!

Holiday Gift Ideas From Talented Makers

Posted in Beauty, Crafts
on November 23, 2016

With the holiday season steadily approaching, I wanted to provide a little inspiration for your shopping list. Many times we rush out to big box retailers without a second thought to how if we plan a little further in advance, we can buy amazing gifts and support small businesses as well. When you shop small you help boost the economy and encourage makers to continue on creating and producing thoughtfully crafted products. Each of these products is made with loving hands and an open heart.

Rondra of Embellished By Design creates personalized tees for the little people in your life. Her “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Clause,” tee is an adorable and festive top that can be paired with jeans or a cute skirt and leggings. The sizes range from newborn to 7.  Your daughter, granddaughter, niece or any little girl you know that’s atleast 1 part sassy will shine in this charming little shirt!

Erin Whitlock of Celise Designs creates mugs, totes and art prints with loads of style. Her sassy #Werk Coffee Mug makes a great stocking stuffer that will look chic whether it’s being occupied by a hot beverage or not. These are also a great option for styling photos too! The coffee and tea drinkers in your life will thank you for adding a little motivation to their everyday routines.

Silvia Torres is the owner of Mala Flats. I’m a flats girl and I always opt for comfort over all. I also understand how hard it is to find flats that are comfortable, high quality and at a great price point. Handcrafted in Leon, Mexico, these shoes utilize the finest leather to provide chic comfort.

Mei Pak is the founder of Tiny Hands Food Jewelry. I saw her Instagram feed and immediately fell in love with all the bite sized jewelry treats! I love food. I’m actually one of those people who looks at the videos of people preparing tiny food, it’s fascinating to me!  A necklace with a waffle, pancake or slice of pie as a charm is just my taste. You honestly won’t believe how real and detailed her food jewelry looks!

Dawn Fitch is the creator of Pooka, an all natural bath and body collection designed to give your hair and skin the yummy nourishment it deserves! I can personally attest the smell of the Fresh Sugah Whipped Cream! You will smell heavenly and your skin will feel amazingly moisturized all day. You won’t need perfume. Chris actually commented on how good I smelled after putting this on! The whole line is wonderful but the Fresh Sugah is definitely my favorite!

These are just a few of the small businesses that I will be shopping at this holiday season! As a rule of thumb, I only buy people gifts that I wouldn’t mind receiving. Make sure you take the time to shop thoughtfully, so you won’t be caught up in the last minute Christmas rush. Thank you for visiting and Happy Shopping!

5 BeautyProductsThat I'd Love To Try

I’m an observative person and I usually don’t make purchases until I’ve had some time to weigh if it’s something that I really need and if it will benefit me or end up under my vanity collecting dust. So I’ve been browsing these internet highways and I’ve found some products that excite me and make me want to try them. I always have a short list running in my head, in case I’m out and spot them at Ulta or Sephora. I wonder if I’m the only careful purchaser. I wouldn’t say I was frugal, because I don’t mind paying for products that live up to their promises. Without further ado, let’s get into these beauty products that I can’t wait to try!

Honest Beauty: So Jessica Alba expanded the Honest brand to add an eco-friendly beauty line called Honest Beauty. You can buy individual products to clean and moisturize skin or try an array of makeup foundations, mascaras, blushes and lipsticks. I like that it’s also a subscription box, so you can have it delivered to your door every month and I love getting mail! (Who doesn’t) There’s a foundation color for diverse skin tones and that’s something else that scored points in my book. I’m all about products that are great for the environment and my health, so this product line is definitely attractive to me. You can also check out my Cherry Lip Scrub if you are looking for an all natural way to exfoliate and moisturize your lips. If I try any Honest Beauty products, I’ll be sure to update you with the deets!

Glossier: Firstly, I absolutely love the branding of Glossier. That alone has prompted me to visit the website a few times and look around. It’s a very youthful and fresh vibe. There are two products that I’m particularly keen on trying from the names and marketing alone. These are the Milky Jelly Cleanser and Coconut Balmdotcom. The Milky Jelly Cleanser can be used on dry or wet skin. It’s said to dissolve makeup or can be the beginning of your skincare routine. Kudos to the marketing folks because “milky jelly,” really pulled me in. The power of words, eh? Also the Coconut Balm is a universal skin salve that can be used anywhere on the body. The description says it “smells like the best parts of summer.” Again, amazing marketing that is pulling my millennial dollars out of my pocket.

So tell me, do you stalk products before buying? What really makes you attracted to a brand? For me it’s the product name, description and of course packaging.

5 Ways Busy Mom’s Can Passively Lose Weight

Posted in Beauty
on March 1, 2015

There’s no mistaking that having kids can take a toll on our body. The way our bodies look can drastically effect our self-esteem and have us telling ourselves that we will be happy once we lose “x” amount of pounds in the sweet by and bye. To put off your happiness until you reach a certain goal is unfair to yourself. What about all the things you can celebrate about yourself today? No matter what size you are, loving the skin you’re in is the first step to getting back on track. However, I do understand that when we look good, we feel good! So here’s some tips that will have you well on your way to losing a few of those l-b’s without having to break much of a sweat. Some tips may take a little discipline, but they are totally doable!

1. Stop eating eating after 7pm. My husband has woke up in the middle of the night to see me eating full course meals at 12 am. When he did wake up, I felt  horrible and caught…lol!!! I felt caught because I knew that I shouldn’t be eating that late and if I did, it should be something light like a piece of fruit. Every time I resist the urge to eat late, I can see the difference on the scale.
2. Make dinner your lightest meal of the day. Now, I’m not saying that you have to eat a bowl of fruit cocktail for dinner. What I am saying is that you should really examine your portions on that last meal of the day. That’s what packs on the l-b’s because you end up laying down after consuming all those calories.
3. Replace your regular beverage with cold H20.The cold water forces your body to heat up and burn more calories! This is especially hard for me because I literally love juice. There’s nothing like a cup of delicious fruit punch with a meal. Sodas and juices have calories and sugar that really add up over time. Eliminating or at least cutting down on the consumption of sugary beverages will help you lose weight gradually.
4. Drink Green Tea. Green tea is so delicious to me. There are some recipes where orange juice helps sweeten the deal to make it a really tasty drink. Green tea boost metabolism, which helps you lose weight faster. Try the recipe first before you say you don’t like green tea.
5. Suck In Your Stomach. I know that I naturally do this whenever I’m taking a picture but I’m talking about sucking in your stomach when you’re watching tv, taking a walk or whenever. I once met a really fit mom when I was in Japan and asked what her secret was. She said “I always suck my stomach in.” She looked fantastic and had 4 kids! Sucking in your tummy burns calories and helps develop your ab muscles.
I’m sharing this list with you because I also have to motivate myself to do these things and writing them down helps a lot. Plus, I feel like a hypocrite if I don’t follow the advice I give y’all up here. Let me know if you know of any other ways to lose weight with minimal effort. I don’t want to discount the value of a sweaty 45 minute workout because I do those sometimes, but this is a great way to give you a small boost on your weight loss journey.

Have You Tried The Oil Cleansing Method?

Posted in Beauty
on January 15, 2015

I love to pamper myself with luscious creams and cleansers, but when it comes to my face, I try to be careful about what I put on it. I was caught off guard when one of my followers on Twitter (@pentherapee) told me about the Oil Cleansing Method. I was thinking, “how in the world is oil going to clean my skin, when I’m trying to get the oil out of my skin?” She referred me to a video and from there my journey began. I started googling researching the oil cleansing  method to find how many other people have tried it. There are a lot. I have natural oils on hand because I love to create stuff, so I looked up a recipe for combination skin.

The recipe that I found just asked that I use 1 teaspoon of castor oil and 1/2 teaspoon of almond oil. I have seen a variety of variations and a good place to look for some recipes is on Wellness Mama.

To be honest, I expected my skin to break out immediately. I mean c’mon, I’m putting pure unadulterated oil on my face. So I massaged the oil into my dry face in circular motions for a few minutes. Then I used a hot washcloth to remove the oil from my skin. After my face had dried, I noticed that it was a bit softer than usual. So I’ve done the O.C.M. for about a week now and a few problem areas on my skin have actually cleared up! I’m going to continue to use it because I know exactly what’s going on my face. Juices and berries. All natural oils. It definitely can’t hurt to try it out. I’ve seen a lot of testimonies online of women who swear by the O.C.M. Would you ever try it? Let me know in the comments if you’ve ever tried it before, and what were your results.
